The
Constitution of Keele University

Article 1- Name of Society |

| i. |
The society shall be named the Keele University
UK Independence Party, abbreviated to KUUKIP. |
| ii. |
It shall be referred to as The Society
from henceforth in this constitution. |
| |

Article 2- Membership of the
Society |

| i. |
The cost of membership for the period of
one academic year shall be set at £1, which maybe
altered by the Executive Committee before membership is
granted. |
| ii. |
Members must support the main policies of
The Society, which are common to all societies affiliated
with, as well as the United Kingdom Independence Party,
which shall be abbreviated to UKIP. |
| iii. |
Members are entitled to one vote on all
issues that are discussed at meetings that are not restricted
to the Executive Committee. |
| iv. |
Members are entitled to attend the society’s
regular meetings and social events. |

Article 3- The Aims and Objectives
of the Society |

| i. |
The main aim of the society is
to support UKIP and its candidates in all elections. |
| ii. |
The Society should meet every week
at a time and place determined at either the previous
meeting or by contacting members at least five days in
advance of the beginning of the meeting. |
| iii. |
The Executive Committee of the society
should aim to send weekly email updates, which should
include the date, time and location, as well as an agenda
or information of the next meeting, to every member. |
| iv. |
The Society is a firm believer
in freedom of speech. |
| v. |
The Society is a firm believer
in core British values. |
| vi. |
The Society is a firm believer
in protecting the national interests of the United Kingdom
of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. |
| vii. |
The Society is a firm believer
that the Head of State should be the reigning Monarch. |
| viii. |
The Society is a firm supporter
that the United Kingdom should leave the European Union. |
| ix. |
The Society is a firm believer in legal political
participation. |

| x. |
The Society is a firm believer in non-discrimination. |

Article 4- Rules and Regulations
of the Society’s Members |

| i. |
The Society members
should support UKIP.
|
| ii. |
The Society’s members must
not be discriminate against anyone regardless of race,
religion, sexuality, creed or sex. |
| iii. |
Members found in breach of Article 4 ii
may be expelled from the society by a simple
majority vote of the Executive Committee and not be entitled
to a return of their membership fee. |

Article 5- The Executive Committee
of the Society |

| i. |
The Executive Committee shall be responsible
for the general running of The Society. |
| ii. |
The Executive Committee must all be fully
paid members of The Society. |
| iii. |
The Executive Committee shall consist of: |
| |
a. President.
b. Secretary
c. Treasurer |

President |

| i. |
The President is the overall leader of The
Society |
| ii. |
The President must guide the society in
a way that he/she sees fit and beneficial to both the
society and UKIP. |
| iii. |
The President is to be the main representative
of The Society to both UKIP and to Keele University
Students Union. |
| iv. |
The President is expected to attend as many
meetings of the Newcastle-under-Lyme branch of the UKIP
as possible. |
| v. |
The President must set the agenda, at least
five days in advance, of the meeting and ensure that it
runs effectively. |

Sub article 5b- Roles of the
Secretary |

| i. |
The Secretary must assist the President
in the general day-day running of The Society. |
| ii. |
The Secretary should act as President in
his/her absence. |
| iii. |
The Secretary must make and distribute minutes
from meetings. |
| iv. |
The Secretary should send weekly email updates
to every member, as stated in Article 3 iii. |
| v. |
The Secretary is responsible for communication
on behalf of the society, and must check and
respond to e-mails and post as regularly as he/she sees
fit; if the e-mail or post is of an important nature,
it should be brought to the attention of the Executive
Committee. |

Sub article 5c- Roles of the
Treasurer |

| i. |
The Treasurer is to be responsible of the
financial business of The Society. |
| ii. |
The Treasurer must provide a detailed financial
report twice a year, as well as giving a brief account
at the 1st meeting of every month. |
| iii. |
The Treasurer must handle the finances of
The Society in the best interests of the society
and its members. |
| iv. |
The Treasurer is accountable for all expenditure
of The Society, and if necessary will be answerable
to both the President and The Society's members. |

Article 6- Rules and Regulations
of the Executive Committee of the Society |

| i. |
The President and the Secretary must be
full members of UKIP national. |
| ii. |
The President must sit on the UKIP branch
of Newcastle-under-Lyme. |
| iii. |
The Secretary may sit on the UKIP branch
of Newcastle-under-Lyme. |
| iv. |
The Treasurer may be invited to the UKIP
branch of Newcastle-under-Lyme by the President or the
branch. |
| v. |
The Executive Committee are accountable
to members. |

Article 7- Rules and Regulations
of the Society’s Elections |

| i. |
If possible, two independent non-members
will be invited to count the ballots; if this is not possible,
the UKIP branch of Newcastle-under-Lyme may provide two
members to carry out this task. |
| ii. |
Only fully paid members of The Society
may vote. |
| iii. |
A member may only stand for one position
in an election. |
| iv. |
There are no restrictions as to how many
times a member may stand or be elected in any position. |
| v. |
The new Executive Committee will take their
post at the next meeting. |
| vi. |
If a member stands for election unopposed,
he/she will be elected only if the majority of members
vote in favour of him/her. |
| vii. |
Members of the society may vote in elections
by proxy by contacting a member of the executive committee
at least 24 hours before an election; the proxy vote must
be written down and signed, or sent by e-mail. |

Article 8- The Process of the
General Election of the Executive Committee. |

| i. |
The general elections to the Executive Committee
shall take place at the annual general meeting, which
shall be on the first meeting in December. |
| ii. |
The members of The Society must
be notified at least one calendar month in advance of
the annual general meeting. |
| iii. |
Nominations will open during the third meeting
of November and will close during last meeting in November,
with members being informed of the results during that
week. |
| iv. |
Nominations will only be accepted by means
of a letter or e-mail, which must be seconded by another
member of The Society. |
| v. |
A secret ballot will take place at the next
meeting, which is the annual general meeting, using a
single-member-plurality system. |

Article 9- The Process of a
By-Election |

| i. |
If a position on the Executive Committee
is to become vacant, then a by-election must be called
by the President. |
| ii. |
The member of the Executive Committee, who
is resigning from their post, may only leave after the
by-election has occurred. |
| iii. |
Nominations will open during the meeting
and will close two days before the next meeting, with
members being informed of the results of nominations at
least 36 hours before the beginning of the next meeting. |
| iv. |
Nominations will only be accepted by means
of a letter or e-mail, which must be seconded by another
member of The Society. |
| v. |
A secret ballot will take place at the next
meeting using a single-member-plurality system. |

Article 10- The Calling of
No Confidence |

| i. |
If a member believes that an Executive Committee
member has acted inappropriately, they must gain the signatures
of 20% of the paid members to be able to call a no confidence
motion. |
| ii. |
After the required number of signatures
is presented at a meeting, a secret ballot will be used
to determine if the no-confidence is sustained. |
| iii. |
If the percentage of the secret ballot vote
is higher than 70% then the member of the Executive Committee
must be removed and a By-Election held. |
| iv. |
If the percentage of the secret ballot vote
is 70% or less, but more than 40%, then a different member
of the Executive Committee must inform the UKIP branch
of Newcastle-under-Lyme, with caution given to the member
of the Executive Committee. |

Article 11- The Calling of
Constitutional Reformation |

| i. |
When a member wishes to reform the constitution,
they must present the proposed change/changes to the Secretary
at the next meeting, who must e-mail all members of the
society with the proposed change/changes. |
| ii. |
At the following meeting, the proposition
should be discussed, and a vote taken. |
| iii. |
A change in the constitution may only occur
whenever more than 70% of the present members vote in
favour of the change. |
| iv. |
If the vote is be vote is 70% or less but
more than 49%, of the members present, then it should
be discussed again at different meeting, which should
be held one month later. |
